The legend of young Abe Lincoln studying by the hearth is an endearing, timeless one to all Americans. Indeed, learning by firelight harkens to man's earliest calling. It is of us. For only in recalling the lore of another time are we reminded of our dearly won freedoms to say, write, and read whatever we choose. Although a small publishing house, we at The Hearthside strive to bring you works of enduring interest, handsomely bound.

We solicit the unusual, the unheralded, the untold. Accuracy and scholarship remain paramount. For example, unlike the current trend in publishing, our footnotes still document from the bottom of the relevant page. As we expand our list of titles, it is our goal to offer you, our readers, finely crafted histories and literary works worthy of your own journey.
